Early Years
DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES OF LlPA MEDIX MEDICAL CENTER
During the late 80’s and early 90’s, a group of doctors from the South and even from Mindanao, came to the city of Lipa to establish their medical practice. They brought with them their expertise after years of rigorous training in various specialties. Considering Lipa City’s strategic location, burgeoning economy, cool weather and overall warmth of its people, they came up with the idea of opening a hospital.
A series of meetings and consultations led to the official start of the history of our hospital. On May 25, 1993, the burying of center’s time capsule was
done. A year later, on July 20, 1994, Lipa Medix Medical Center, a 3-storey building with 50-bed capacity, was fully operational. Dr. Nestor L. Atienza was the founding chairman of the board and Dr. Jose Pepito D. Tenorio was the founding president. The first medical director was Dr. Jose Rene D. De Grano while Dr. Cesar D. Dimayuga was the first hospital administrator. The first chief of clinics was Dr. Alfredo M. Del Castillo.
Three years later, a building for Outpatient Department was constructed. It has 23 rooms and 60 clinicians. It expanded to having an additional floor lodging a total of 75 beds under the chairmanship of Dr. Celso S. Ramos in 1999.
The continuous development paved the way for the opening of the Psychiatric Ward, Drug Detoxification Center, the Industrial Clinic, as well as the Dialysis Unit.
However, it was just the beginning of a new era of growth. Barely 10 years after its operation, a new building was constructed together with the expansion of the OR-DR complex plus the creation of a state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit. This newest building which became operational on July 22, 2008 houses the Heart Station, Lithotripsy Center, Dialysis Unit and 20 exquisite suite rooms. The High Risk Pregnancy and Infertility Center was also established in the same year. Trusted perinatologists, reproductive endocrinologists and OB-Gyn sonologists manned this special center.
In the succeeding years, the Neurodiagnostics Center consisting of EEG, EMG and Audiometry was opened. Mammogram was acquired together with Nuclear Medicine facility. The Hospital hired a Quality Assurance Officer who is primarily responsible in ensuring that Phil health’s thrust of providing excellent services is given attention to. Hospital committees were added and activated to address pertinent requirements. One of these committees is the Ethics Review Board which protects the rights and welfare of human subjects on research. In addition, the management also founded the Internal Audit System Department which safeguards the hospital resources and Master Plan Committee which strategically plans for the short and long term goals for hospital infrastructures.
The increasing demand for patients’ rooms brought about by the increasing census gave rise to the construction of a new building known as the Annex. Some of the existing services located at the old building were transferred to the Annex Building. This building houses the much bigger ICU, Stone Center, Physical Rehabilitation Center, Heart Station, Doctor’s Lounge and Chapel, among others. The underground of the Annex building is where St. Dymphna’s Ward for Neuropsychiatric clients is located. The second to the fifth floor houses the rooms for patients.
Lipa Medix Medical Center did not rest in its laurels. In recent years, more developments and advances were felt and seen. The Hospital, with its effort to continually improve the safety and quality of healthcare delivery, was recognized by PhilHealth as a Center for Excellence from May 1, 2011 to August 30, 2014.
The increasing number of OPD patients and practicing doctors prompted the management to plan for the construction of the new Medical Arts Building. The first floor houses the following: a much bigger Emergency Room with triage area, Isolation Room for communicable diseases, the inpatient and outpatient pharmacy, HMO Office and Cashier Area. The second floor to the fifth floor consist of 79 rooms which are being used by 142 active practitioners. The hospital auditorium and board room are located at the sixth floor.
A year later, on September 10, 2015, the Hospital reached another remarkable milestone in its history as it achieved the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Certification.
In 2015, a feasibility study among cancer patients who seek Radiation Therapy was conducted by the President, Dr. Larry M. Manaligod. After this, the Hospital opened the first ever Tomotherapy Center in Southern Luzon. With the most advanced Radiation Treatment Capability, it aims to help cancer patients who have complex long term needs. It started its operations in July 2017.
In 2016, another 2-storey building in the Hospital compound was constructed. The first floor, known as the St. Peregrine Home, is the temporary shelter for cancer patients undergoing therapy while the second floor is assigned as home for the nurses. Truly, LMMC is an institution that cares for the welfare not only of its patients, but also of its employees.
LMMC is undeniably on its way to being one of Southern Luzon’s most prominent hospitals, hence, the idea of a healthcare system for children known as Lipa Medix Pediatric Center was born. The center, which is the first and biggest health care center in Southern Luzon region built specifically for children, opened on March 14, 2019.The 5-storey building has creatively designed rooms and is fully equipped with technologically advanced equipment and facilities.

In 1996, a 23-room Out-Patient Department (OPD) was built, accommodating 60 clinicians. Under the chairmanship of Dr. Celso S. Ramos, construction of the fourth floor began in 1999, expanding its capacity to 75 beds.

In August 2003, 15 new incorporators joined, raising PhP 20,000,000 from the sale of the lot where the new building was constructed.
