LIPA CITY, BATANGAS – Lipa Medix Medical Center (LMMC), in partnership with Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) R4A Lipa Fire Station, has successfully concluded its three-day Fire Brigade Training, a major initiative to strengthen the Institution’s fire preparedness and emergency response, (September 17, 2025).
Fire Brigade Training is a three-day lecture with practical exercises which aims to provide fundamental knowledge on proper mitigation of fire accidents. Spearheaded by LMMC’s Safety and Health Unit, along with the BFP R4A Lipa Fire Station headed by SFO1 Joel R. Contreras, together with, SFO1 Jun V. King Veluz, FO2 Lailyn D. Lubrica, and FO1 Wally L. Ballesteros.
The lecture was attended by 38 LMMC employees coming from both administrative and ancillary services. It tackled general information about fire, scaling ladder, proper utilization of fire hose and nozzle, rescue transfer, ropes and knots, and fire accident simulation. These topics provided participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience, equipping them with vital skills to respond effectively during fire emergencies and related incidents.
SFO1 Joel R. Contreras emphasized the importance of fire brigade training.
“Mahalaga po na itinuturo ang kaalaman [sa pag-apula ng apoy]…dahil una, ang ating pinagkaka-ingatan ay buhay…ang sabi nga po na nandoon na…saving lives and property…life muna bago property…” Contreras said.
Moreover, he also said that the fire brigade training helps to reduce fire accidents as this kind of initiative teaches employees and individuals with proper planning in case of emergency.
“Ang fire brigade training po, ay ayon sa ating Fire Code of the Philippines R.A 9514. Kapag po kasi ang employee sa isang establishment ay [umabot sa] 60 [persons] above …dapat po sila ay [bumubuo] ng brigade [team].” he added.
For LMMC employees this training helped them to be equipped in case of fire.
“Bilang empleyado…nakakatulong po siya sa akin ngayon kasi…alam ko po ang gagawin kapag nagkaroon ng sunog dito sa ating building…[at] sa kung paano [mag-apula ng apoy].” Aidelyn B. Domingo (staff nurse) shared.
Meanwhile, Engr. Baby Joy Ara M. Umali, Head and SO3, LMMC’s Safety and Health Unit, shared the importance of knowing the proper fire accident mitigation.
“Ahh…mahalaga po ito sir para po hindi po mas lumaki yung sunog po…” Umali said.
She also shared that this training was initiated due to a recent fire accident at the Hospital.
Through this Fire Brigade Training, LMMC demonstrates its commitment to workplace safety and accident readiness, aligned with its Integrated Management Systems Policy to eliminate hazards and reduce occupational health and safety risks, thus ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for all.
