Pens ablaze and knowledge ready — students from Lipa Medix Medical Center’s (LMMC) affiliated schools showcased their wit at MedIQs: Nursing Quiz Bowl as part of LMMC’s celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan at MAB Auditorium, August 12, 2026.
MedIQs: Nursing Quiz Bowl is the hospital’s very first interschool quiz tournament. This program aims to strengthen the nursing students’ skills and knowledge in the patient care profession. The quiz ran five rounds, each featuring key areas of nursing and Lipa Medix Medical Center’s history, milestones, and services.
Five affiliated schools gathered at the MAB Auditorium to participate in the battle of the brains: De La Salle Lipa (DLSL), Lipa City Colleges (LCC), Kolehiyo Lungsod ng Lipa (KLL), NU Lipa, and FAITH Colleges. Each school had representatives from every year level.
Students from DLSL, LCC, and FAITH Colleges put up a good performance, dominating the first round with 20,20,20,16,12, respectively.
Meanwhile, KLL edged past LCC in the second round, running neck and neck alongside DLSL and FAITH Colleges; NU Lipa remained in fifth place in the standings.
LCC stormed back in the third round as FAITH Colleges spoiled their momentum, pulling even with NU at 16 points apiece.
DLSL continued to hold their ground in the fourth round.
Moreover, NU shifted the momentum as they rallied back in the last round, dominating DLSL.
Despite DLSL’s fallback in the fifth round, they still solidified their reputation and sealed the victory, garnering an overall total of 88 points.
“Yung preparation po namin is getting to know each other, mag-build po ng chemistry, and when it comes to answering the questions po, kailangan po naming magkaroon ng one decision when it comes to answering.” Azmiel Luke Andrei Estolano, DLSL nursing student, said.
Estolano also said that they weren’t afraid of losing the quiz but to learn.
Furthermore, Kristine R. Jacinto, RN, DLSL Faculty Coach, shared that the La Sallian’s commitment is what brought them the victory.
“We already see the commitment that they have. Number one is yung courage na mayroon sila because all of them are first timers na lumaban out of the school. Nandun yung courage nila at the same time, yung stock knowledge na mayroon sila [dahil yun yung mahalaga] kasi anything under the sun can be asked in this quiz,” she said.
Jacinto also said that the quiz bowl has opened new doors for them for opportunities. She also shared that this program is an opportunity for the students to see the things that can be offered by Lipa Medix Medical Center.
Christian James Abu, RN, Head Nurse, said that the main goal of this quiz bowl, in celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan, is to showcase the knowledge, skills, and attitude of the student nurses, particularly in dealing with cases in the nursing profession.
“We are preparing for more academically related activities involving our affiliated schools, and hopefully the institution can provide other activities that can support not just the student nurses but also other departments as well,” he added.
DLSL aspires to defend the title in the next season.
